Our family lives in Arizona, it's hot and honestly it's getting much much drier. Even without scientific reports, I can tell you from 34 years of living here, the monsoons are infrequent, it is more dry than ever, and the fires are out of control.
We were just in California and the fires there are frequent, there is a massive drought, you pay per plastic grocery bag you use, and they are practicing rolling blackouts.
Growing up I remember monsoons happening frequently around my birthday in August. So much so that I was often worried we couldn't swim on my birthday is a dust storm rolled through. Now, I haven't had that thought much at all. There was something brewing yesterday evening but it fizzled out before turning into anything other than a big cloud.
This brings me to why I'm writing about sustainability. I am not an expert by any means, but I do want to help where I can. I'm not in charge of a huge company that can make a meaningful impact. I'm not a politician that can make laws requiring people to change their habits. I'm an educator and a mom, amongst some other roles.
I can make some changes though that do help. I know that eating animal products is the biggest factor in how I can help. But my family would revolt if I got rid of all meat or animal products and went vegan. But, I can choose to do that a few times a week and certainly during my breakfast and lunch. I can also chose what products I buy and bring into our home. We are fortunate enough to have the financial ability to make this choice, not everyone is in this boat. I do feel like those who can afford to do so, should.
Monat. The company is built around sustainability which is one reason I am drawn to changing my beauty products to them exclusively.
We are committed to being mindful of our environmental footprint, ensuring we have a positive impact on our communities and our planet, treating people with respect, and bringing gratitude to all aspects of our business. - Monat
I will do this in time as I run out of my previously purchased items because throwing them away is just as bad and unhelpful (although, for my personal health it might not be a bad idea).
Gratitude is one virtue they teach their partners. I have found that when I practice gratitude, I want less, I need less. When I am good at this practice, it means I have more financially to spend on quality products instead of having a lot of products that will deconstruct sooner and be in a dump site before long. With Monat, I know I use less and add less waste.
