Food Budget Reset

Writer: Sharon TuttleSharon Tuttle

We are going into a stint of budgeting in order to prepare for a possible career change or if that doesn't happen, just to pay down and save up!

With a family of 6, we have a large budget for food. Some are picky, some want the same thing daily, others have sensitivities...and my husband and I want to eat fairly healthy without a lot of processed foods.

In May we spent approximately $1,700 and in June about $1,300. These months were a little strange because we were out of town, ate out a lot, and it was the last week of school and I made breakfast/lunch for about 80 students as an end of year activity. That activity was about $125 of the May budget.

I am attempting to slim our food/toiletry budget down to a $600 average! Yikes! We will see how this goes! If we no longer eat out, shop once a week and if I go back to meal planning and coupon shopping, I think I can do it!

Here goes week 1!
